Study on dynamic compressive properties of concrete with different loading paths

Dynamic compressive tests of concrete were carried out by using a static_dynamic test machine. The effects of strain rate and initial static load on dynamic strength and deformation characteristics of concrete in compression were investigated. It was revealed that the ultimate dynamic compressive strength increased with the increase of strain rate, and the initial static load was significantly influencing the final dynamic strength.Following the increase of initial static load the dynamic strength tended to decrease. The relationship between initial static load and dynamic compressive ultimate strength was formulated by an exponential function. At the critical point at which strain rate changed, the tangential modulus obtained from the stress_strain curve also changed. When the concrete was subjected to higher initial static load, the change of tangential modulus became more remarkable.
