Experience Kiosk on Site : Mixed Reality for Cultural Heritage Experience

Mixed reality is an ideal medium for providing virtual experiences with and preserving precious cultural heritages. However, providing such an experience to the mass of people is problematic because of the device usability, management and cost. In this paper, we propose a mixed reality system installed on site to help people appreciate, learn, interact, and experience partially or completely lost cultural artifacts. The proposed system operates both in augmented and virtual mode to provide a variety of interactions and experiences, and is designed with public consumption in mind. In particular, for it is installed at the very site of the cultural heritage, its effects are maximized through the synergy between the natural and realistic location context and augmentation/virtualization.
