An assessment of noise pollution due to automobiles in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu

Cuddalore is an imprtant coastal town in Tamil Nadu. The ambient noise levels were assessed at various places in Cuddalore. Noise levels in places under silence zone, residential zone and commercial zone for exceeded the standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board. Noise levels measured at selected police beats during peak hours revealed that the traffic police men are exposed to very high noise levels during peak hours during week days. Some measures need to be carried out to reduce and control the noise pollution due to automobiles in Cuddalore.
