Interaction between periodically arranged beams and fluid

Based on the 3-D homogenization model developed by Zhang, the interaction between beams and fluid in a beam bundle are discussed in this paper as well as the effect of neighbouring beams on the interaction, based on the 3-D homogenization model developed by Zhang. This interaction is reflected by a gyroscopic effect as well as the added fluid on the beam. The added fluid comes from two sources. The first is the surrounding fluid in the absence of any constraint, and the second is due to the neighbouring beams which impose some constraints on the fluid. A simplified formula for the evaluation of the area fraction of the added fluid from the first source is given. It is also the approximation formula of the micro-structural parameter arising in the homogenization model, particularly in the case of high porosity of the bundle structure.
