Joint coding and modulation diversity MIMO DFT-S-OFDM scheme

As compared with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme, Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) scheme exhibits very low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). As a SC-FDMA scheme, Discrete Fourier Transform Spread Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) has been adopted for uplink transmission in the third Generation Partnership Project-Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) standard. On the basis of the existing 3GPP LTE standard, we propose a novel joint coding and modulation diversity MIMO DFT-S-OFDM scheme. By introducing the rotational modulation and space-time-frequency component interleaver, this proposed scheme jointly optimizes the coded MIMO DFT-S-OFDM and modulation diversity together, which makes full use of time diversity, frequency diversity and space diversity. It exhibits high spectral efficiency and low error rate in fading channels. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme greatly outperforms the conventional MIMO DFT-S-OFDM scheme based on Bit-Interleaved Coded Modulation (BICM) in the 3GPP standard.
