Testing three cultivars of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) from Florida for resistance to common blight caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli

Aglasshouse and a field trial were conducted to determine the resistance of three cultivars of Phaseolus vulgaris L. from Florida (XR235, TxR235 and L23) and two local cultivars (Campbell 11 and CH14) to three Queensland isolates (0795, 2475, 2503) of Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli Cultivar XR235was the only cultivar to exhibit resistance to X. campestris pv. phaseoli in both the glasshouse and field. Isolates were not statistically different in disease severity but based on symptom expression and reaction to the monoclonal antibody XP2, isolate 0795 was different from the other isolates 2475 and 2503.
