The T R W Computer Division of Thompson Ramo Wooldridge Inc. has completed the development of a computer program to simulate an automobile traffic network. The Traffic Network Simulator, TRANS, was developed for the District of Columbia in partial fulfillment of a traffic s tudy contract administered by D. L. Gerlough, Head of T R W ' s Traffic Systems Section. The s tudy cont rac t was sponsored by the Depar tment of Highways and Traffic, in cooperation with the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads. The program was writ ten for the I B M 7090. The pr imary purpose of TBANS is to evaluate the effect of traffic signal settings on traffic flow in a region of a city.
