Design and analysis of a gate valve fluid flow using SolidWorks simulation software

This paper presents an outcome of a final year project of a design and analysis of a gate valve using SolidWorks which is a Simulation software. The scope of this project focused on two parts, i) learning how to use Solidworks as a tool for product development and ii) a gate valve design and analysis of its fluid flow. The gate valve was designed in detail in two and three dimensional models that consists of parts, assembly and drawings. The SolidWorks Flow Simulation was then used to test the effectiveness and limitation of the gate valve. Fluids were applied in the simulation to observe the reaction of the gate valve. The outcomes of the simulation showed that this gate valve has the ability to control the flow of liquids and is very durable. In addition the project proved that Solidworks is a tool that can be used effectively to design and simulate flow in gate valves.
