FUEL ALCOHOLS SEEN THROUGH AN OIL COMPANY'S EYES

In this paper, power units are surveyed as to current status and development potential in the future energy/emissions scene. Alcohols are considered as fuels in their own right as gasoline blending components and as feed stock for gasoline manufacture. Experience with alcohol/gasoline blends in current and recent model Australian cars is presented and discussed. The author concludes that the oil industry will distribute and sell whatever fuels are available, commercially viable and perceived by the community to be acceptable so that alcohols may find their way into the market place alongside gasoline, diesel distillate and liquified petroleum gas. /Author/TRRL/
