ABSTRACTThe author reviews the effective self-help programme carried out by library technicians in New South Wales throughout the 1970s. He shows how a relatively small group of para-professional workers was able to mobilise its own and outside resources in achieving industrial and organisational recognition. The contribution of the State library is defined and acknowledged. In conclusion, library technicians in a wide range of libraries are urged to complete ‘the integration of library technicians into the library workforce’.
