A Survey on Topology Control in Wireless Sensor Networks: Taxonomy, Comparative Study, and Open Issues

This survey proposes a taxonomy to classify existing topology control issues. It examines topology coverage problems in detail and reviews connectivity problems under spatial and temporal controls. Open issues are presented, and the paper points toward a set of WSN design guidelines and how these would apply to a set of case studies. The purpose of taxonomy is to classify topology control systems in WSNs. Two primary performance metrics are essential: coverage and connectivity.
