Geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems represent a good alternative system for cooling and heating in buildings, when compared to conventional systems. The energy efficiency of the GHP systems primarily depends on the temperature of thermal sources as well as the capacity of geothermal heat pump unit. In the field of geothermal heat pump unit, many researches have been conducted to improve the thermal performance of heat pump unit, which plays an important role in determining the efficiency of the whole system. This paper represents the simulation results of the heat pump performance for two different control schemes, i.e. constant setting temperature (Control-A) and variable setting temperatures (Control-B) in buffer tank. A dynamic simulation environment, TRNSYS 17, was used to assess the performance parameters of the system over about one year of simulation period. The heating energy generated by the heat pump was 8,170 kWh and COP was 4.27 for Control-A. When the Control-B was applied, the heating energy and COP were found to be 7,616 kWh and 4.31, respectively.
