Design of an electric vehicle battery box based on electric-thermal model

In view of the heat dissipation problem of the electric vehicle power batteries, a serial ventilation structure of battery box was designed. The paper made simulations to study the temperature distribution of the battery box using the forced air cooling strategy with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The paper also studied the cooling effect of the box with different air speeds and vent positions. The results of the simulation indicated that when the air speed was becoming greater within limit, the cooling effect would be better. Once the air speed was outside the limit, the highest temperature of the box was no longer decreased obviously and the cooling effect was no longer changed obviously. Changing the air inlet and outlet position could partly affect the cooling effect of the battery box.
