Planning and field testing for digital terrestrial television

Describes the techniques and provides some results of planning exercises carried out by the BBC and the EBU to assess the potential for the introduction of digital terrestrial television. It covers both SFNs (single frequency networks), which may be operated in relatively clear channels, and digital transmissions interleaved with existing analogue frequency assignments. Finally, there is a brief account of field trials carried out in the London area to gather some practical experience with a digital transmission system.
