DEVELOPING PRINCIPLES FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING TO FACILITATE INTEGRATED TRANSPORT PLANNING

The objectives of the workshops held in all 8 of Australian states and territories included: identifying issues affecting transportation planning; identifying priorities for actions necessary to improve transportation planning; and improving the level of understanding and contact between road authority staff and others who are involved in transportation planning. The following four steps have been identified as necessary to conduct sound, methodical, and effective strategic planning: identification of objectives; improvement of needed tools; development of a framework to address the identified issues; and, development of principles for strategic planning.
