State of the ejaculatory ducts, deferent duct ampullae, seminal vesicles and posterior urethra after various operations for benign prostatic hyperplasia. A vasovesiculographic and urethroscopic study.

The appearance of the deferent duct system, including the seminal vesicles, after operations for benign prostatic hyperplasia was studied in 72 patients by vasovesiculography and urethroscopy. No changes were observed in the ampullae or vesicles. Damage to the ejaculatory ducts was common. The frequency of this damage was lower after transurethral resection than after transvesical, transcommissural or retropubic enucleation of adenomas. Ejaculatory duct lesions were most frequent after removal of small adenomas or in cases with complicating prostatovesiculitis or sclerosis of the bladder neck. In no case did the ejaculatory duct damage cause stenosis of the deferent duct system or of the vesicular outlet. Reflux from the dorsal urethra to ampullae and seminal vesicles was demonstrated by micturition urethrography in the patients with damage to the ejaculatory ducts.
