A fast lumped parameter model for magnet skew in a motor

Magnet skewing is a straightforward technique to minimize detent torque. An existing fast design package for permanent magnet motors is modified to examine the influence of magnet skew on detent torque, axial force, and back EMF. Magnetic lumped parameter modeling takes care of this 3-D problem by using the sense of average in the axial direction. Permeances representing the air gap and magnets are modified as well as the function describing the magnetic motive force distribution in the air gap.
