Discussion and Application of Eliminating the Background in γ-ray Spectrum by SNIP Algorithm

In order to separate useless spectrum information and improve the accuracy of interpretation in full spectrum analysis,continuous background have to be eliminated automatically.In this paper,the origins and characteristics of the background in γ-ray spectrum are introduced,the theory and process of the sensitive nonlinear iterative peak clipping(SNIP) algorithm which be used as a method for elimination of the background is discussed.The author use derived procedure to estimate the background of a multichannel γ-ray spectrum,according to comparison of three full-energy peaks,suitable width of the clipping window for peaks with different widths can attain the optimal effect of continuous background elimination.The result obtained is satisfactory and proves that this mean applying to the software platform of natural γ-ray spectral logging system is practical.
