Reliability evaluation of the auxiliary electrical systems of power stations

This paper presents a novel approach to the reliability assessment of different designs of power station auxiliary electrical systems. This assessment evaluates the impact of the auxiliary system on the availability of the unit in terms of derated states of the unit. This technique permits the reliability cost to be calculated easily for different system designs. All realistic failure modes were taken into account. An efficient computer program using these techniques has been developed and was used to obtain the results presented in this paper.
