Pseudo Noise Sequence Coded Continuous Radar: A Signal Processing Algorithm

In this paper we develop a novel signal processing algorithm for continuous phase coded Doppler radar using pseudo noise (PN) sequence as the phase coding signal. We exploit the correlation side lobe suppression property of PN sequence in the detection and ranging of targets. The two-dimensional detection (range and Doppler shift estimation/detection) problem is discussed briefly. A mathematical solution of the two-dimensional detection problem for continuous phase coded Doppler radar is presented. The solution is based on the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) detector. Detection performance of the net signal processing algorithm is evaluated analytically. Monte-Carlo simulations support the analysis. The performance is illustrated using the family of receiver operating characteristics.
