A compact printed triple-band MIMO/diversity antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications

A compact triple-band MIMO antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications is proposed. The MIMO antenna composes of two symmetric elements, each of which includes three branches: Br1, Br2 and Br3. These three branches yield three resonances, covering 2.4/3.5/5.5 GHz bands, respectively. An inverted-U neutralization line with four implanted branches improves the impedance bandwidth and the isolation. The isolation is finally higher than 20 dB in the whole band. The proposed MIMO antenna has a very small size of 31×31×0.8 mm3 on a cost-effective FR4 substrate. The parameters evaluating the diversity performance of the proposed MIMO antenna including ECC, MEG and DG has been investigated. Results show that the proposed antenna is promising for practical MIMO systems.
