A special interest group of the German Society of Informatics (GI) on User Modeling and Adapti-vity in Interactive Dialog System has been founded in 1996 (ABIS Homepage). Annual workshops have been held since 1994 in academic and industrial environments (ABIS Homepage). Most subareas of user modeling and user-adaptive systems are well represented in Germany, with the following clusters being particularly active research areas:
Student modeling and student-adaptive tutoring systems: KBS Homepage, Multibook Homepage, Trier Educational Software Server.
Adaptive multimedia product presentation: Jording 1999, Popp & Lodel 1996, Rossel 1998, Timm & Rosewitz 1998.
