According to an apparatus and method for managing resources in a wireless communication system, a base station receives an available filter index and a channel quality index from a terminal, determines the type of a resource block to be used by the terminal based on the type of a filter, a physical location mapping rule regarding the filter, and the numbers of times of left and right nulling for a guard band in accordance with the received information, and transmits information about the determined type of the wireless block to the terminal.
