A PARALLEL COMPLEX FAULT COMPUTATION ALGORITHM FOR LARGE SCALE POWER SYSTEM DIGITAL SIMULATION

Parallel processing is a well promising technology for on-line dynamic security assessment and real time digital simulation of power system. The complex fault computation in which a large mount of computation should be carried out is one of the most important parts in power system simulation, which has become the bottleneck in real-time simulation of large scale power system. Because of the complexity to calculate the equivalent impedances between the fault-buses, traditional methods are not suitable to parallel processing. Here, a parallel algorithm which can be used for complex fault computation of large scale power system is presented. To decrease the mount of computation and that of the communication, several calculation methods such as localizing fault processing, constructing the reduced network equations and parallel solution of linear equation are applied. On the base of existing serial program, the proposed parallel algorithm for complex fault computation is implemented by PC cluster, its lightness and effectiveness are verified by the simulation of practical power system.
