Selective assembly with components of dissimilar variance

Abstract Statistical selective assembly is a means by which high-precision assemblies may be made from relatively low-precision components. This is accomplished by partitioning components into groups prior to random assembly. However, the method has been shown to produce poor results when the components exhibit dissimilar variabilities. A technology for partially overcoming this limitation is evaluated.
