8 – Network Transmission

Publisher Summary This chapter describes the techniques, transmission link (media), and equipment used to transmit the digital signals particularly, channel banks, multiplexers, and repeaters, which are part of the electronic equipment used in digital transmission systems. Digital transmission techniques are becoming increasingly cost effective, even for short distances. Also, the quality of digital methods is superior to analog. It contributes to the design of rugged transmission lines that are easy to design, easy to install, and easy to maintain. Digital transmission lines handle all varieties of source signals—broadcast music, data, and television, which eliminate the need for special lines for special signals.
