Design of Upper Monitor for Forest Environmental Monitoring

Modern forestry research and digital forestry management have a higher requirement for accurate forest environmental monitoring. Traditional methods cannot meet the requirement. The forest environmental monitoring system based on wireless sensor network (WSN) is able to overcome numerous shortcomings of the traditional methods, and achieve better performance. In order to facilitate data observation and network management, this chapter gives two practicable solutions for an upper monitor, mobile phone monitoring, and a software monitor on PC. In the phone-monitoring mode, users can receive information that contains forest environmental parameters through short messages. The software monitor is developed with Visual Basic 6.0 and MS SQL Server 2000. It does not only real-timely display forest environmental parameters and their curves, but also provides the historical data. Besides, we can control the network conveniently with the software monitor.
