Physical Preparation for Golf: Strategies for Optimising Movement Potential

In establishing an effective approach to player performance development, the coach must deploy multi-dimensional preparatory strategies to ensure that optimal mental, technical, tactical and physical states are reached and maintained during competition. Allowing for the enhancement of technical movement potential and the ability to cope with the demands of competitive play comprehensive physical preparation strategies that optimise overall scoring success are widely becoming an integral part of player development. Understanding the role that physiology plays in achieving optimal practice and competitive physical state, allows for implementation of preparatory strategies to achieve movement potential, and competition maintenance strategies, to minimise physical deterioration. With the emerging application of multi-disciplinary, golf-specific support teams and appropriately prescribed strategies, the objective of any physical development programme should ensure that the player not only reaches the golf course in a physically optimal state, but maintains it throughout competition
