This paper presents a new methodology for calculating the end-to-end (E2E) impact on video quality of multiple stages of de gradation across a multihop network. Using this methodology, the individual degradations of eachstage o f compression and tran smission loss nee d only be known in order to calcul ate the overall E2E impact on video quality. A theoretical derivation o f the methodology is presented, and this is initially verified by 90 experiments. This methodology is a powerful ne w tool for e valuating the impact of complex network scenarios on new ser vices such as mobile video and user-generated content.
