Fuzzy numbers in computerized electrocardiography

Abstract This paper describes how fuzzy numbers arise in the automatic processing of electrocardiographic signals. Fuzzy numbers are used to define imprecise classes, to describe imprecise measurements and to derive approximate decisions. A computerized system for the diagnostic classification of the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram is presented and some results are shown which exemplify the usefulness of the fuzzy set approach to electrocardiographic diagnosis.
