Integrated structural and control optimization of intelligent structures

A new approach for simultaneous optimization of intelligent structures and the control system is presented. Conventional structural sizing variables and elements of the feedback gain matrix are both treated as independent design variables in design. The mass and the vibration control performance index of intelligent structures are chosen as objective functions, and constraints on real parts of eigenvalue, imaginary parts of eigenvalue of closed-loop system and actuator control forces are included. Simultaneous optimization of the intelligent structure and the control system is converted into multiobjective optimization. A numerical example is presented to prove the validity of the present approach.
