Switching antenna array group by group for pencil beam forming

In this paper, a novel scheme for pencil beam forming is proposed in which sub-arrays share one transmit/receive channel in different time slots appointed. Compared with the traditional multi-channel antenna, this scheme only requires one set of T/R devices, and the array size is reduced by half while achieving the same beamwidth. By using interpolation technique of nonuniformity space sample, we design the fed coefficient of every element of sub-arrays. This efficiently suppresses grating-lobe of this group-by-group switch antenna array. Simulation results demonstrated the effectiveness of this scheme and the design method on sub-array pattern.
