Numerical Simulation of Vortex-Induced Vibration of a Circular Cylinder

A numerical simulation of vortex-induced vibration of a circular cylinder for a fixed Reynolds number Re= 3900 is presented.The CFX code is employed to solve the 2D N-S equations using the SST turbulence model.The circular cylinder simplified as a mass-spring system with different stiffness is researched using the variable mesh and CEL function of CFX code.The "self limited" phenomena of vortex-induced vibration and the transition procedure of vortex shedding modal are observed.The effect of stiffness on the character of vortex-induced vibration is presented.
