RECENT RESEARCH INTO SEISMIC DESIGN OF BRIDGES IN SOLVENIA

The paper summarizes the results of the research group at the University of Ljubljana and identifies the research needs in Slovenia with regard to the seismic design of bridges. The topics of (a) analytical methods, (b) new design methodology, (c) higher mode effects, (d) accidental eccentricity, (e) torsional sensitivity, (f) regularity, (g) bridge abutment-soil interaction, (h) energy dissipation and seismic isolation, (i) evaluation of seismic retrofit needs, (j) design-oriented program, and (k) Eurocode 8/2 structural standard are briefly introduced and discussed. It is hoped that the paper could help to identify areas of common interests in civil/infrastructure research.
