FEM study on the structural behaviour of segmental concrete bridges with unbonded prestressing and dry joints: Simply supported bridges

This work presents a finite element method (FEM) analysis of the behaviour of segmental concrete bridges, focusing on the response under combined shear and flexure, in service and ultimate limit states. A previously validated FEM model has been applied to simulate the structural behaviour of simply supported bridges. The non-linear and geometrical model considers the particular behaviour of the dry joints, the concrete plasticity and the slipping of the prestressing tendons at deviators. Interesting and original conclusions have been reached regarding the reinforcing criteria and the resistant mechanisms of these structures once the opening of the joint takes place.
