Shake table testing on an energy absorption device for steel braced frames

Experimental work on the Imperial College shake table is presented in this paper on an energy absorption device for steel braced frames. The device is based upon rotational friction and can generally be placed at the bracing connections. Slip at the device imposes a limit on the load transmitted to the bracings, giving protection against the progressive deterioration of strength and stiffness which occurs in the event of cyclic deformation that causes buckling or yield in tension of the bracing members.
