Computer Aided Control Systems Design Techniques

Publisher Summary The conventional design of multiloop control systems is a time consuming task. If a digital computer is used to assist in this design process, the engineer's work lessens. The complete, automated design of such a multiloop system is desirable. This chapter discusses the problem of automating the design of a multiloop feedback control system. Frequency domain specifications are combined into a non-linear cost functional. Then the functional is minimized using mathematical minimization techniques. This approach determines compensator parameters, which force the system to satisfy the specifications. This compensator can then be implemented to complete the design. This study was undertaken to investigate the possibility of using mathematical programming techniques to automate the design of feedback control systems. For the design problem to be solved in this manner, a non-linear functional must be postulated, which is a function of all the specifications that are to be satisfied.
