The enzymatic metabolism of hexobarbital (evipal).

Hexobarbital (Evipal) is oxidized in rabbit liver homogenates to yield keto-Evipal, a derivative of Evipal in which one of the methylene groups of the cyclohexenyl ring is converted to a carbonyl group. Both TPNH and oxygen are required and the oxidative system is located in the microsomes. The oxidation of Evipal is inhibited by diethylaminoethyl diphenylpropylacetate (SKF 525-A). This compound also inhibits the oxidation of a number of other types of drugs, which are oxidized by biochemical mechanisms located in microsomes and which require oxygen and TPNH.
