Selecting the Patient

Careful patient selection is vital to the success of outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy. As more experience has been gained, criteria for acceptance have expanded. Up to 50% of patients now originate from physicians' offices and other nonhospital settings. Currently, medical stability, insurance cover age, and availability of experienced personnel are the major selection criteria.
