Research of Flight Characteristics of Projectile With Triangular Cross-section

The flight performance of rod armor piercing projectile with triangular cross-section and circular cross-section were experimentally investigated respectively.The curves of flight velocity drop and nutation were given.Aerodynamic coefficients and moment coefficients of two projectiles were determined by fitting.Aerodynamic performance and ballistic performance were studied by experiments.The result shows that the projectile with triangular cross-section has few resistance and better flight stability.Its stability capability is higher than that of the projectile with circular crosssection.Under low rotation speed,the projectile with triangular cross-section has great Magnus moment and more possible to increase the projectile distribution.The projectile with triangular cross-section has higher lift-drag ratio and more excellent maneuverability.It is suitable for guided projectile shape.
