The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the mechanical characteristic of T-shaped wall in wall slab system apartment buildings considering effective width in flange. Currently all walls of apartment buildings are designed as uniform rectangular wall. Thus the effect of wall which is perpendicular to applied lateral load is ignored resulting excessive reinforcement in web. We made the three walls as specimens were full scale and cyclic lateral loads were applied at the top of the walls. Also We performed Nonlinear analysis of FEM method to compare with the results of the experiment and to give a basic informations to parameter research. The test results indicated that it is possible to design shear walls economically if structural roles of vertical reinforcements within effective width of flange are considered.
