Segmentation ofCancerCells inMicroscopic Images using Neural Network andMathematical Morphology

Thispaper presents thesegmentation ofcancer cells inamicroscopic tissue imagefrombreast cancer. Weper- formcolor classification using theneural network. Subsequently, morphological operations andcell size considerations areusedforeliminating spike noise andseparating cancer cells. Theexcellent segmentation results fromtheproposed algorithm aredemonstrated withmicroscopic images under bothlowandhighhistological noise conditions. These pre- liminary results oftheautomated imageanalysis showapromising solution tothetraditional manual analysis.
