18 – Geotechnical Engineering Software

Publisher Summary There are many geotechnical engineering software packages available on the market. In this chapter, an introduction to some of the more famous software is discussed. It provides a detailed account of different software for: shallow foundations, viz. SPT Foundation, ABC Bearing Capacity Computation, Settle 3D, Vdrain–Consolidation Settlement, and Embank; slope stability analysis, viz. Reinforced Soil Slopes and Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls; bridge foundations, viz. FB Multipier; rock mechanics, viz. Rock Mechanics, viz. Wedge Failure Analysis and Rock Mass Strength Parameters; pile design, viz. Spile and Kalny; and lateral loading analysis—computer software. It also deals with the finite element method, which is considered to be the most powerful mathematical method that exists today to solve piling problems, and boundary element method, which is a simplified version of the finite element method.
