Review and assessment of deep-well injection of hazardous waste. Volumes 1-4

This final report presents in 4 volumes a review and analysis of the available information related to deep well injection, and an assessment as to the adequacy of this method for managing hazardous wastes and insuring protection of the environment. A total of 105 deep-well-related research projects was identified and hazardous waste research projects numbered 186. More than 1,000 papers related to deep well injection of industrial waste were reviewed. The most serious problems encountered are because of failure to use available geologic information and proven engineering practice in design and completion. Appendix subjects include: (1) bibliography; (2) related patents; (3) waste characterization profiles; (4) inventory of industrial waste wells in the U.S.; (5) case histories; (6) recent microbial research; (7) research related to deep well injection; (8) summary of research project; (9) summary of legislation, regulations and policy on deep well injection. (approx. 1,100 refs.)
