Algorithm and architecture design for de-interfacing system

Interlaced scanning i s w e d ./br traditional TV .swtem to save the bandwidth uf the transmitted datu. But. uncon~fbrtahle visual artifacts occur due to the inher-ent iialiire ofthe interlaced process. De-interlacing i.s a tech~ique which ccm ca~iiw't the interluced picturw to prog1'e.s.sh~e pictiirec. I n tl7i.s paper. a block-based de-interlacing algoritlim is propused. TIE proposed method combines 2-step motion e.srimatiu~i scheme with spatial de-interlacing scheme und provides better robustness Jbrfust moving object. For each tobe-procersed block. we,/;rrt detect tl7e motion prapern; ~ f t h b block, ai7d then perform .suitable de-inter-lacing process fbr each empn; pi-rel in this block. In the cose of/a.st moving block. we use large/. spatial de-interlacir7g. In h e cuse of norinal block. we use lm&v motion compensated de-interlacing. For comp1e.r regions in an image. motion cornpensated dein~erlucing is peifiwmed. Moreover. the proposed algorithm provide.s comera motion field detection. For all empy pirels in U camera motion field. we lice motion compensated dehiterlacing to get better performance. Compurrr simiilation indicates thnt our method provides better performance than that ~fcoi~venfionul de-interlacing algorithms.
