The association between vesical carcinoma and diverticulum of the bladder.

The incidence of vesical diverticula was determined in patients with tumours of the bladder and radiological signs of bladder-outflow obstruction and in an age-matched control group with outflow obstruction alone. No significant difference was found. This result does not support the contention that diverticula predispose to tumour formation and, therefore, prophylactic diverticulectomy is not recommended.
