Phase shifting applied to non-sinusoidal intensity distribution—An error simulation

Abstract Phase shifting was traditionally developed for application to sinusoidal intensity distributions. With the growing need for analysing non-sinusoidal intensity distribution as in moire and grid methods, the applicability of phase shift equations are examined for triangular, square and step-triangular wave intensity profiles. Simulated studies show that the same expression as for sinusoidal distribution can also be used for other intensity profiles.
