Active-matrix electroluminescence and color EL displays

Active-matrix-electroluminescent (AMEL) displays using ZnS phosphors have demonstrated sufficient luminance, contrast, and stability under high-frequency drive for commercial applications. Recently, color AMEL displays have been fabricated using either spatial or temporal filtering of the SrS:Ce/ZnS:Mn broad-band emission. The SrS:Ce/ZnS:Mn broad-band phosphor shows improved spectral balance under AMEL drive conditions. Higher-efficiency blue emission remains the primary goal for achieving lower power in both active- and passive-matrix color EL displays.
