Platform-based service composition for manufacturing: A conceptualization

Abstract With the implementation of cyber-physical production systems, a multitude of isolated industrial services utilizing versatile hardware and software components in heterogeneous and rigid system architectures are an obstacle for the consequent extension of holistic automation within production networks. To address this issue, we conceptualize a platform-based system architecture enabling value-adding service bundles based on and extending proven architectural styles. Our proposal also aims on qualifying communication systems to work transboundary in value-adding networks. The presented architecture is applied to a use case in context of maintenance. Our findings provide an adaptive conceptualization for application-specific service composition and integration.
