An MCM based HIPERLAN radio sub-system

The Hiperion development programme funded by DGIII of the European Commission has resulted in the successful design, manufacture and test of a prototype radio system for use in a HIPERLAN system. The resulting radio system required the design of several custom components, including an MCM-D RF front end which converts between the 5.2 GHz RF and the first IF in both transmit and receive. The radio subsystem architecture is described and the technologies employed to realise the design are outlined. Initial test results are presented describing the performance of the completed system for transmission and reception of data at 25 Mb/s.
